Cartoons, Comic Strips, and Manga
Many of us we start our day by reading the comic strips in our local newspaper. Now we see cartoon characters in the movies all the time. Learn to create your own cartoon creature -- draw shapes, form, exaggeration, expressions, and perspective. November 15, Thursday, 4:00 PM.

It is a library, after all...
Wow, it has been over a month since we posted anything! The Summer Reading Program kept us busy, and has just finished for 2012. As we know all of you are, we're in back-to-school mode, and we all know what that means: a lot of reading! But, as you well know, there is a lot to be said for reading as a form of entertainment. That's where this blog post comes in...
Beginning in October, we will have a monthly book club for students in 6th-8th grades, "The In Bet(w)een Club," to talk about a book that will be chosen for that month AND to give you the chance to tell us about something you have read. We want your input in choosing the books, so we'll start with that right away! In the comment section below, tell us which of these five books you'd like to be the first title chosen for this new club. Or you can send a text to 916-365-2310 with the title you want to vote for. Voting ends August 31st, so be sure to tell us what you want to read first!
Bad Girls Don't Die by Katie Alender
Boy From the Basement by Susan Shaw
Escape from Furnace by Alexander Gordon Smith
Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin
There will soon be a book club for high school students, too...stay tuned!
